A punk jacket is an essential part of your punk rock look, and can be created from most denim or leather jackets. While you will need a bit of imagination and some tools to create your jacket, with a few tips you can transform a plain looking jacket into a punk rock dream.

Find your perfect jacket. You can create a punk rock jacket from virtually any color of leather; however, if going with denim, make sure the fabric is thick and sturdy and the color dark.

Purchase your studs, selecting a variety of sizes for your decoration. It is best to choose screw-on studs that do not require a special tool. Lay out your jacket and make marks where you want your studs, using a marker or masking tape if working on black leather. The order and design of your studs is completely up to you, just make sure that your jacket will still be comfortable to wear.

Use a carpet knife with a sharp blade to cut through the leather or denim where you would like to place the studs. Make sure just to cut a slit just large enough to force the end of the stud through. If working on denim, place a small piece of duct tape over the spot on the inside of your jacket before cutting so that the fabric will not fray over time. Push the studs through the holes and screw them in place.

Select a number of patches that you would like to use to adorn your punk jacket. These can be anarchy patches, band logos or anything that expresses your personal style. If working on denim you can simply sew the patches on with a needle and thread. When adding patches to leather, use super glue.

Add the finishing touches to your jacket by paining designs, words or anything you like using acrylic paint pens. You can also add buttons, chains and other details to your jacket as desired.
